POLISHED CONCRETE
Polishing concrete is similar to sanding wood. It is fast becoming an environmentally friendly, low maintenance alternative for the flooring needs of industrial, commercial and governmental facilities. The process involves heavy-duty polishing machines equipped with progressively finer grits of diamond-impregnated segments of disks gradually grinding the concrete surface to the desired degree of shine and smoothness. It is a multi-step process.
During the process of polishing concrete, color is introduced on the concrete by means of acid stains or dyes. In the recent years the use of dyes has become very popular because of its ability to offer a larger variety of color options.
While polished concrete offers a lot of advantages like ease of maintenance and low cost of installation, it is not suitable for every type of concrete surface. The concrete must be structurally sound and at least 28 days old. Stamped concrete and floors that are cracked, wavy or extremely porous may not be good candidates for polishing. In such cases, polished concrete look can be achieved by Polymer Concrete.
